Oil Painting Restoration

Oil painting restoration requires taking action toward the long-term preservation of the painting. The associated documentation and treatments are carefully selected based on experience and education.

Cleaning oil paintings removes the build-up of dust, dirt and smoke that accumulate over time. The painting is restored to its original colours and a new protective coat is applied to maintain the painting in the years to come.

In the event of a hole puncture or tear, the canvass must be repaired. First, the intact painting is consolidated - a treatment to help the original paint stick strongly to its canvass. Then the entire backside of the canvass must be  cleaned and holes filled.

Touching up and colour matching the paint is also necessary prior to a final protective varnish coat to the finished work.
